Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet is more than half off, bringing its price down to just $55. It originally went for $130, so that’s pretty cheap. In fact, it’s just $5 less than its Amazon Prime Day price.
It’s a great tablet even at its original price. It has a hexa-core processor, 13 hours of battery life on a single charge, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a microSD slot for up to 1TB of additional storage.
It’s also pretty thin and light, making it a budget-friendly option for an “at-home” tablet. Just put it on a nightstand and use it for emergency Netflix sessions. We recommended this tablet in our official review, calling it “a great community device.” It’s not going to win any design awards, but it does its job well.
There are two caveats. First, it’s an ad-supported model. There are ads on the lockscreen. I hate ads with the heat of 1,000 suns, but this has never bothered me. The whole thing is pretty harmless. The other potential drawback is related to the app store. This tablet can only access the Amazon Appstore, not Google Play. You’ll be able to get all the big apps and games, but more exclusive titles might not be available.
Amazon is also selling the slightly more powerful Fire HD 10 tablet for $90, which is close to its Prime Day price. It has a 10.1” FHD screen, octa-core processor, and 3GB of RAM.
October is around the corner for Prime Day 2024, the (un)official start of Amazon’s holiday shopping season. If you want to grab some early holiday deals for the people on your list (or for yourself), here’s what we know so far about the next Prime Day shopping event.
If you subscribe to Amazon Prime or Prime Video and want to expand your streaming horizons, Amazon has a deal for you. Prime subscribers can get a bundled subscription of Max and the ad-free version of Starz for just $21 per month, which is $7 less than the bundle’s usual $28 per month price.
Max has a solid back catalog of classic Hollywood films programmed by Turner Classic Movies, original movies and TV shows from HBO, and cartoons from Cartoon Network, as well as a chaotic collection of reality TV programming from HGTV, Food Network, and more. If you’re looking to watch The White Lotus when the show returns in February or the second season of The Last of Us in April, this bundle is a pretty good reason to join the Max bandwagon.
